(a) Using your knowledge of feedback loops and homeostasis, explain what normally happens to blood glucose after a meal and why this process is completely absent in Maria. Be specific about the cells, hormones, and effectors involved. (b) At the cellular level, explain why Maria's cells are "starving." Your answer should address membrane transport and specifically, what type of transport glucose uses to enter cells, and why that process fails without insulin. (c) Maria's doctor mentions that her body has begun breaking down fat and muscle for energy.
