In the videо оn the "evоlutionаry аrms rаce" involving garter snakes and newts, researchers tested locomotor performance of TTX-resistant garter snakes before and after injection with TTX (tetradotoxin, the toxin produced by the newts). Before TTX treatment, the snake crawled away quickly before treatment, but when the snake was later tested after treatment, the snake tried to strike at the researcher rather than crawled away (see video clips below). Explain why the snake may have changed its defensive behavior as a result of TTX treatment - why didn't it simply crawl away as before? What did TTX treatment do to the snake? How might this factor into the various "lines of defense" a snake might use in the wild? Before TTX treatment After TTX treatment
