In the Tаlаmаnca mоuntains оf Cоsta Rica, dense oak forests once covered the landscape.  These oak forests, with trees growing up to 50 meters tall, are home to countless birds, epiphytes (plants growing on plants), amphibians, reptiles and insects. In the 1940s, the Pan-American highway made this area accessible to humans.  Over time, large areas of this once continuous forest were logged for timber, to produce charcoal, and to graze cattle.  Now, stretches of continuous forest exists alongside grazed areas, with patches of oak trees of varying sizes scattered across the landscape.  You are interested in this region as a test case for applying MacArthur and Wilson's Island Biogeography Theory in a terrestrial landscape, where continuous forest is like the mainland, and patches of oak of varying sizes and distances from the continuous forest are like islands.  You plan to focus on insects and/or plant species that specialize on oak trees.  Let's assume you can find a range of these isolated oak islands of various sizes and distances from the continuous forest.  Identify 3 principles of Island Biogeography that you could test.  For each,  A.  Briefly explain the principle.
