Cаse Study pаrt 1 Kаthy, age 45, had a third ventricle brain bleed due tо an undiagnоsed nоn-cancerous brain tumour. Surgery was performed to remove the tumour, and Kathy has returned home. The discharge team initiated an occupational therapy referral to address their concerns with cognitive issues and Kathy’s return to work as an editor and journalist with a national newspaper. Information in the client record: Cognitive assessment reports show that Kathy has (i) short-term memory loss, (ii) problems with organizational skills, (iii) difficulties with abstract thoughts, and (iv) difficulty with multi-tasking. Kathy has limited insights into her limitations, stating that she wants to return to work within the next few weeks. Kathy has decreased finger dexterity and hand co-ordination. She is unable to hold a pen or pick up small items. Kathy is frustrated that she cannot recall information and struggles to remember activities she completed yesterday. Kathy does not have any difficulty using a computer keyboard, but she does have some difficulty using a computer mouse. Kathy can recall a pattern of three but has difficulty recalling information after 10 minutes. Kathy’s attention span is limited, and she is distracted by external stimuli. The surgical site is healing well. By using aids and adaptations, Kathy can independently perform routine self-care. Kathy has started taking a homeopathic herb prescribed by a naturopathic doctor to increase memory recall. Kathy worked from home and enjoyed going to yoga two or three times a week prior to her surgery. Kathy owns her three-bedroom house where she lives with her 17-year-old son.
