Purpose: This assignment allows you to practice a challenging portion of your essay and explain your writing plan before the final in-class essay. Part One: Video Reflection/Explain Your outline (35 points) Tell your thesis statement. Explain why you chose your topic. Explain how your examples and evidence will support your thesis (i.e., why you chose those examples or evidence). Discuss at least one piece of feedback I provided on your outline (i.e., Did I give you feedback? How do you plan to revise your essay based on that feedback?) Part Two: Practice Draft (15 points) Draft a working title. Write one section of your essay that you believe will be the most challenging (maybe the introduction OR a body paragraph). This is a practice draft, not a final draft. Practice the more difficult parts of the essay so that I can offer you feedback! Focus Areas by Essay Type Narrative Essay: Practice your hook and the use of dialogue with correct punctuation. Compare/Contrast Essay: Practice a body paragraph with a clear topic sentence, transitions, and supporting details. Argumentative Essay: Practice integrating and explaining evidence within a body paragraph. Literary Analysis Essay: Practice incorporating and citing evidence from the song and poem using correct MLA format.
