Pleаse reаd the fоllоwing: Acаdemic Integrity Pоlicy Arapahoe Community College and the Colorado Community College System are committed to academic honesty, scholarly integrity, and ethical conduct. Students are expected to demonstrate integrity in all coursework, laboratory activities, assessments, discussions, and online course participation. Academic integrity is essential not only for success in this course, but also for the development of the professionalism and accountability expected in healthcare and scientific fields. Students are expected to: Submit original work Complete coursework honestly and independently unless collaboration is specifically authorized Properly cite and acknowledge all outside sources, including genAI Refrain from receiving or providing unauthorized assistance Protect personal login credentials and course access information Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, plagiarism, cheating, fabrication, falsification, grade tampering, misuse of computers or electronic technology, unauthorized collaboration, and facilitating academic dishonesty by others. Students found in violation of academic integrity expectations may be subject to academic consequences up to and including a failing grade on the assignment, failure of the course, and/or additional college action as outlined in the Student Behavior Expectations and Responsibilities Resolution Procedure (SP4-30a). Students may obtain additional information by contacting the Dean of Students Office. Copying, paraphrasing, summarizing, or closely imitating material from textbooks, websites, articles, videos, electronic media, or AI-generated sources without proper citation. Submitting examinations, laboratory work, discussion posts, reports, assignments, or other materials prepared wholly or partially by another person. Submitting work that is substantially similar to another student’s work. Using copied material from outside resources such as Chegg, CourseHero, Brainly, or similar services. This includes discussion posts, lab assignments, written papers, and other coursework (“self-plagiarism”). Falsifying or fabricating citations, data, lab results, participation records, or academic materials. Students are required to use proper citation practices for all outside resources including Gen AI. Please note that summarized and paraphrased material must also be cited, not only direct quotations. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use What is Gen AI? Generative AI (Gen AI) is a form of technology that uses machine learning to generate content such as text, images, code, and music based on user input. Some Gen AI tools you may be familiar with include ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Grammarly. While Gen AI tools can serve as useful supports to your education in some circumstances, it’s important that you learn Gen AI best practices to avoid crossing the line into Academic Dishonesty. Guidelines for the use of Gen AI Unless otherwise explicitly permitted by the instructor for a specific assignment, the use of Gen AI tools is prohibited for completing graded coursework in this course. This includes, but is not limited to, platforms such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, GrammarlyGO, Jasper AI, Copilot, Claude and similar genAI tools. Examples of unauthorized use of Gen AI tools in this course includes: Generating written assignments or discussion posts and/or replies Editing or rewriting coursework beyond approved support Answering quiz or exam questions Producing summaries, reflections, or responses in place of original student work If Gen AI use is permitted for a specific activity, students remain fully responsible for: The accuracy of submitted content Proper acknowledgment or citation of AI assistance when required Ensuring the work reflects their own understanding and learning Unauthorized or undisclosed Gen AI use may be considered academic dishonesty. Please see the separate AI Policy for this course. Students with questions about appropriate collaboration, citation practices, or the permitted use of Gen AI tools are encouraged to ask their instructor before submitting coursework. Online Course Integrity To maintain the integrity of the online learning environment, students are expected to: Complete all exams and quizzes without unauthorized assistance (“closed book, closed notes, closed browser, open brain”) Follow all testing and proctoring requirements Avoid sharing screenshots, quiz questions, exam content, or assignment answers Never share login credentials (S-number or password) with another individual Instructor Response to Violations Academic integrity violations will generally be addressed using a progressive response. While each situation will be evaluated individually, repeated violations will result in increasingly serious consequences. The instructor reserves the right to determine the appropriate response based on the nature, severity, and frequency of the violation, in accordance with college policy. Possible consequences include: First violation (typically): Written warning, which may include an educational conversation and/or an opportunity to retake or redo the assessment when appropriate. This is reported to the Dean of Students office, without a request for intervention. Second violation (typically): Reduced or zero grade on the assessment and a referral to meet with the Dean of Students for intervention. Third violation (typically): Failure of the course and referral to the Dean of Students for additional institutional review. More serious violations (such as deliberate cheating on an exam, impersonation, or repeated misconduct within a single assessment) may warrant more severe consequences immediately, including failure of the assessment and/or course and referral to the Dean of Students.
