1.  Althоugh mоst оf the texts thаt we hаve hаd this semester have focused on men, women have had a prominent role in several of the works.  Compare and contrast two of the female characters we have had this semester.   Although it is not required, do try to examine women from two different works.   In your essay, you must analyze the female characters in the works.  Some things you might consider are:   -   Are women heroines or villains in the work?  -   How do they affect the plot?     What is their relation to the hero of the work? This is NOT a checklist, but some ideas for you to start your brainstorming.  You must come up with your own thesis and prove it throughout the course of your essay.   2.  From the very beginning of the semester where we saw Gilgamesh leaving Uruk to seek adventure and knowledge in the wilderness, we have seen the importance of leaving civilization to the meaning of our texts.  Select one of the texts we have read this semester and discuss how a change in location affects the characters, meaning, theme, and/or symbolism of the work. In your essay, you must analyze how location affects the work and not just identify spots where characters leave civilization.  Some things you might consider are:    -   What knowledge do the characters gain by leaving civilization or their comfort zone? -   What things can be done outside the city that cannot be done in the city? -   What literary elements (motifs, themes, metaphor, etc) are created by leaving civilization? This is NOT a checklist, but some ideas for you to start your brainstorming.  You must come up with your own thesis and prove it throughout the course of your essay.
