The physician sees what appears to be a human bite wound to the upper arm and the patient admits that the roommate bit him during the fight. The patient is subsequently diagnosed with endocarditis and admitted to the ICU. Blood cultures were drawn before IV antibiotics were started. The blood culture grew a Gram-negative coccobacilli that on CHOC agar produced yellow colonies with a bleach-like odor and that pitted the agar. BAP agar produced non-hemolytic colonies.
