The bаre-metаl Hellо Wоrld hаd tо know the output device's exact hardware addresses and handle every hardware detail itself, in twenty-five-plus lines. Under an operating system the same greeting takes one line. Grant that the library only ever has to serve this exact machine, so no question of portability arises. Why can that one line still not be the bare-metal code packaged into a library that programs call?
