Benchmаrk Essаy Prоmpt Artificiаl intelligence (AI) is becоming increasingly cоmmon in college classrooms, and the use of AI raises questions about academic honesty, learning, critical thinking, privacy, and the development of students’ own skills. While this course does not permit students to use AI, for this assignment, consider both the potential benefits and potential disadvantages of AI for college students and take a stand on the issue of AI use in the college classroom. Despite my policies for this online class, there is no right or wrong answer to this question. There is no single “correct” position on AI in the college classroom. For this assignment, I am interested in evaluating how effectively you develop and support your own position so that I can assess your current writing abilities. I know that this is a timed essay, and I am not looking for perfection. (I’m keeping in mind that I haven’t even taught you anything yet!) You may discuss questions such as: How might AI help students learn? What are some ways AI could make college work easier or more efficient? What problems could arise when students depend too heavily on AI? Could AI affect students' ability to think critically, solve problems, or develop writing skills? What concerns might instructors have about academic honesty? Should colleges allow some uses of AI while restricting others? Based on your own reasoning and experiences, what role, if any, should AI have in the college classroom? You do not need to answer every question above. Use them to help you develop your own ideas. Your essay should be at least 4 paragraphs, including the following: (Note: If you do not know what some of these essay components mean yet or how to execute them, that’s OK. You’ll learn them this semester!) An Introduction- Begin with a brief introduction that establishes the topic and provides context for your reader. Your introduction should lead to a clear thesis statement expressing your overall position or main idea about the use of AI in the college classroom. Body Paragraphs- Develop your ideas in at least two well-organized body paragraphs. Begin with clear topic sentences. Focus on one main idea at a time. Consider advantages and/or disadvantages of AI. Provide specific examples, explanations, or observations. Use transitions to help your ideas flow logically from one paragraph to the next. Conclusion- Include a thesis mirror and leave your reader with a final thought about the appropriate role of AI in higher education.
