While working with a child with Down syndrome at a daycare, the daycare teacher pulls you aside and asks you to watch her 4 year-old son walk. Her son was healthy and had no history of lower extremity injury. About a week ago, he began limping and complaining of pain with bearing weight. Upon observation, he walked with a Trendelenberg gait and refused to sit with his ankles crossed when sitting on the floor. He would sit on the floor in long sitting (hips flexed to 90 degrees, knees extend with knees nearly touching), but getting up and down from the floor was painful. Because of this presentation, _____ was suspected and later confirmed via X-ray.
