Sоurce: Fаrewell Address given by the Prоphet Muhаmmаd during his last pilgrimage tо Mecca. “O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I don’t know whether, after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore, listen to what I am saying to you carefully. O People, just as you regard this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. "O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have right over you. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers… O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers, fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in zakah (charity). Perform Hajj if you can afford to. You know that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. You are all equal. Nobody has superiority over other except by piety and good action. Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone._______________________________________ The Dome of the Rock is one of the earliest surviving buildings from the Islamic world. It is located on Temple Mount, previously the site of the Temple of Jerusalem. The rock over which it is built is sacred to both Muslims and Jews. Muslims believe that Muhammad ascended into heaven from the site. In Judaism it is the site where Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac. Built as a place of pilgrimage, the octagonal building has richly decorated walls and a gold-overlaid dome, 65 feet in diameter, mounted over a circle of piers and columns. The colonnades are adorned with golden mosaics that shimmer in the light. The mosaics in the Dome of the Rock contain no human figures or animals, instead featuring Arabic script and patterns mixed with images such as jewels and crowns. In the Middle Ages, Christians and Jews identified the Dome of the Rock with the Temple of Solomon. The Knights Templar were quartered there following the conquest of Jerusalem by a Crusader army in 1099. QUESTIONS: 1.
