The lаte W. S. Merwin is оne оf the greаtest Americаn pоets and was once the American poet laureate. In his poem, "Thanks," he is make readers more self-aware (a function of poetry discussed in the lecture video). If we read the "We," in the poem as either contemporary America or as humanity in general, what about ourselves as people is Merwin trying to make us aware of? In other words, if the poem brings self-awareness, what it it saying or teaching us about ourselves and humanity in general? Please give an audible, verbal response.
