PART I: ESSAY COMPONENT, The first pаrt оf the exаm cоnsists оf аn essay component. Part 1 should be completed in essay format and contain a minimum of 5-6 paragraphs. In answering the question, your objective is to "respond/ think like a historian," meaning you must support your arguments and claims with evidence from primary and secondary sources (paraphrase, recall from memory). Pick only ONE option to answer from the questions below: Option 1: Examine and discuss the various factors that explain Black and Native American participation in the Revolutionary War. What are some of the prominent ways that they participated, and why? Option 2: How did the policies of Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson shape Native communities and their lands? Identify and explain each administration's approach to Native American policy. Then, analyze how Native American nations/ tribes responded to, resisted, and adapted to these policies. Lastly, what do you think De Las Casas' primary purpose was in documenting his observations and reporting his findings? Option 3: Identify and explain the factors that led to the explosion of southern slavery after the 1790s. Discuss some of the various ways that Blacks shaped their existence and worlds despite the harsh realities of life in bondage in the Antebellum South. Lastly, what do you think is De Las Casas' primary purpose for documenting his observations and reporting back his findings?
