Article Summаry In August 2023, the Biden аdministrаtiоn annоunced a plan tо implement new tariffs on imports from China, Germany, and Canada of the metal used to make cans for canned food products. A Commerce Department investigation found that the three countries were selling these products, called tinplate, in the U.S. market at unfairly low prices, which justifies the new tariffs. Chinese products would be subject to a tariff rate of 122.52% of their import value, while the proposed rates for German and Canadian products are 7.02% and 5.29%, respectively. China currently accounts for 14% of these U.S. imports, while Germany and Canada are responsible for a combined 30%. Source: Yuka Hayashi, " U.S. Plans New Tariffs on Food-Can Metal From China, Germany, and Canada," Wall Street Journal, August 17, 2023.   All else equal, if the Biden administration successfully implemented these tariffs on tinplate products, what would happen to the price of imported tinplate products in the United States and the quantity of imported tinplate products demanded in the United States according to the demand/supply model?
