Archie wаs аn emplоyee оf а pоol cleaning company. His employer’s clientele was a virtual “who’s who” of the rich and famous. Archie decided it was time to help redistribute the wealth in his direction. One of the pool company clients was a wealthy hedge fund manager. Archie noticed that the client often wore a Rolex watch, and his wife was often seen in public with expensive jewelry. He also knew that the client and his family were outside the country on vacation. One evening around midnight, Archie drove his car to the client’s home and entered the pool area of the residence. He next picked the lock of one of the doors leading into the kitchen. Archie then slipped inside the door and headed towards the back of the residence where he found the master bedroom. He immediately proceeded to look through the drawers of a nightstand, and although he did not find the Rolex, he came upon a priceless diamond necklace. He grabbed the necklace and immediately headed for the back door of the residence. However, as he entered the kitchen, he was confronted by the live-in maid who began to scream. His response was to threaten that if she didn’t shut up and get out of the way he would kill her. Out of fear she stepped aside, and Archie ran to his car. Concerned that the maid would call the police, he jumped into the vehicle and sped off at an excessive speed. About a block from the client’s residence, Archie ran through a red light and struck a pedestrian, killing her instantly. Fearful that he would be arrested, Archie drove to his friend Bob’s apartment. He then explained everything that had just happened, and Bob assured him that he could stay with him at the apartment until he figured out his next move. Discuss all legal issues relating to (1) the acts relating to the theft of the jewelry; (2) the encounter with the maid; (3) the death of the pedestrian; and (4) Bob's criminal responsibility as a party to the crime. Assume that the common law applies in this jurisdiction.
