Literаture suppоrts thаt аctive student engagement, including participatiоn, cоllaboration, and emotional investment — supports better academic performance and learning outcomes across contexts (Xu et al., 2023; Kong, 2021). Studies also indicate that enjoyable and interactive learning experiences increase motivation, focus, and retention — so, fun actually helps you learn (and pass boards!)... now thats evidence-based (Nadeau et al, 2026). And selfishly ... It also makes class way more enjoyable. Human connection — wild concept, right? This course is designed to encourage collaboration with your classmates and faculty (yeah thats evidence-based teaching right here!!!). To support engagement, students will be encouraged to: Meet each other in person on Day 1 for skills lab — yes, IRL! Form informal study pairs or small groups (2–5 students) to review and prepare for the comprehensive exit exam and boards. These groups are student-led and not formally organized or monitored by faculty. Collaborate on group presentations. (Its easy to tell groups that work and prep together! and that does count as part of your grade) Last day! on-campus class and toast! Engagement may include (but is not limited to): Attending and actively engage in rapid review / board prep sessions / class (ask questions, offer information! tell a joke) Having your camera ON during class (No one like teach and talk to a screen full of initials - so much of our communication is non-verbal). Being active in the class Teams channel (sharing helpful resources, checking in on peers, asking/answering questions, etc.) Here's the Question: In a short sentence or a few bullet points, please describe how you plan to contribute to class engagement this semester. Feel free to be creative and suggest ideas References (you guys don't have to include references) 🙂 Kong, Y. (2021). The role of experiential learning on students’ motivation and engagement.
