SECTION A: Shоrt Stоry Reаding Cоmprehension - Text SECTION A SHORT STORY – READING COMPREHENSION Reаd the first pаrt of the passage and answer the questions that follow:   Moana Quest for the Heart     Moana lived on an island. She loved the island, but most of all, she loved the ocean.  The golden rule that everyone lived by is that the island people dare not sail beyond the city reef, because of what happened long ago.  Te Fiti was known as the mother island that gave life to all. The demigod Maui used his fishhook to steal her heart, and so, with no heart, Te Fiti crumbled.  A terrible darkness spread, and the lava monster Te Ka struck Maui. This resulted in Maui losing his fishhook, and ultimately Te Fiti’s heart. Darkness continued to grow.   As Moana grew older, her father wanted her to lead her people. The only thing stopping her was the golden rule. One day, the ocean gifted Moana with something shiny – It was Te Fiti’s heart!  Moana, in shock, dropped it, although Gramma Tala found it and kept it safe. Gramma Tala showed Moana a secret cave full of old ships. The island people used these boats to sail beyond the reef and used to be way-finders.  Gramma Tala gave the heart of Te Fiti to Moana and told her that she should head off to find Maui and convince him to return her heart. Sailing beyond the reef would be the only way Moana could save her island. While sailing, a great storm struck and washed Moana up onto Maui’s Island. After meeting Maui, she tried to convince him to return the heart, but he declined, and said that he had no power without his fishhook.  Maui stole Moana’s boat and sailed off without her, but, as he turned around, he saw the ocean carrying Moana to the boat. To repay her for almost stealing her boat, Moana made Maui teach her how to sail. They decided that to return Te Fiti’s heart, they would have to work together to first find his fishhook.  Along the way, Moana and Maui went through many obstacles, but they refused to give up! Moana was quickly able to escape one of the frightful obstacles, sail to Te Ka and offer her the heart!  After accepting the heart, Te Ka started blossoming, with green leaves and beautiful plants and the darkness soon turned into light. Maui and Moana remained friends, although Moana had to return to her island where everyone was overjoyed and thankful that she saved the island.  She is Moana – the leader of her people!  (Adapted from Disney Moana - Quest for the Heart)
